West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust partnered with Alertive to rapidly modernise clinical communication, at scale and in a short timeframe.

West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust recognised that its existing communication tools were no longer sufficient to meet the demands of a modern healthcare environment. Inefficiencies in one-way, outdated communication systems were impacting coordination, responsiveness, and overall operational flow.

The Trust needed a solution that could be deployed quickly and deliver immediate improvements, without the prolonged timelines and complexity typically associated with large scale digital programmes. They chose Alertive.

WSFT adopted a structured and highly focused implementation approach, built on strong collaboration between clinical, operational, and digital teams. A dedicated project team and clinical steering group worked together to map workflows, define requirements, and ensure the solution aligned with real world clinical practice.

Implementation followed a clear phased framework, beginning with project setup and technical preparation, followed by clinical safety and governance approvals, system configuration, and finally user onboarding. Each stage was carefully managed to maintain momentum while ensuring safety and compliance.

A segmented onboarding strategy allowed different staff groups to transition smoothly, supported by tailored training and hands on support. This approach ensured high levels of confidence and adoption from the outset, even within a fast paced rollout.

Within the first week of go live, more than 2,500 users signed up, which is a testament to the system’s value. This implementation took just three months from initial discovery to full scale deployment.

One of the most encouraging outcomes with Alertive is it’s doing so much more than the bleep system we had and digital platform we had. I would describe it as probably a gateway to broader digital change.

High levels of early adoption translated into significant communication activity within the first month, improving the speed and reliability of information sharing across teams. This supported more effective coordination of care, particularly in time sensitive scenarios.

Clinical workflows such as referrals, consultations, and patient flow management became more streamlined, reducing delays and enabling staff to focus more on patient care. The scale and speed of adoption also demonstrated strong user confidence in the platform and its usability in daily practice.

Building on this foundation, West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is continuing to expand its use of Alertive to further enhance digital workflows and reduce administrative burden.

Future developments include the rollout of more enhanced task management capabilities and deeper integration with their electronic patient record system.
